About me
I grew up in the shadow of a textile mill in South Carolina where my father worked as the plant manager.
In the mill village I learned about hard work, league softball, church picnics, neighborhood hospitality, and front porch story telling.
At nineteen, while attending Clemson Universtiy, I got my first job running a church youth program and took my father's work ethic and sense of the southern parish into the pastorate.
Along the way, I met Carrie Richards from Ada, Michigan and convinced her to give up cold winters for hot summers and join me on the coast of South Carolina.
Carrie and I have served churches on the coast of South Carolina, in the Carolina foothills, and now in our current church outside Nashville, Tennessee.
We recently celebrated our twentieth wedding anniversay and give thanks daily for our children: Cayla, Abbie, and Nathan.

BACKGROUND ON THE BOOKS:
I believe in parallels. Apparently so did Jesus. He would walk along and say, “The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, or like a father with two sons, or like workers in the marketplace.” We call these parables, or parallels. One thing alongside another.
In each of my books, I set one thing along side Bible passages and stories. In The Psychology of Jesus, I set the psychology of Freud, Adler, Glasser, Ellis and others alongside Jesus’ relationships. In The Enlightenment of Jesus I set Zen Buddhism and the philosophy of Gurdjieff and Krishnamurti alongside my relationship with God. In Enough, I set my experiences as a pastor alongside the writings of George Carlin, Jainzhi Sengcan, and others. In Moses and Mickey Mouse, I set the story of Moses and his encounter with God at the burning bush alongside my families trip to Disney World.
Here is each title and some formative books that helped me write them and suggested further reading if you want to know more.
